Things to Avoid When Trying to Conceive
We have been living a pretty clean life but my doctor reminded me a few things now that we are trying to conceive (TTC). The commitment to have a child should be strong that a couple is willing to give up a few habits. If you are life us then the list below might be useful for you. I found this in BabyCenter and these are the things to avoid.
-
Lubricants – these are toxic to sperm and interferes with the role of the cervical mucus.
-
Certain Medications – check your medications for hypertension, acne, and migraines.
-
Large Amount of Caffeine – it is okay to drink coffee but in moderation. Experts agree that less than 300mg a day will not hurt.
-
Mercury in Fish – Two servings of any fish in a week is fine; avoid shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish, tuna
-
Alcohol – for women, best not to drink after ovulation
-
Cigarettes – smoking lowers sperm count
-
Certain Chemicals – many common household cleaning agents (ie detergents, solvents, petroleum-based surfactants) have toxic effects on fertility.
-
Stress – this affects the hypothalamus, which in turn the one responsible of “telling” the ovary to release eggs.
-
Hot Tubs – The testes should be in a cool environment
-
Drugs – marijuana is still under debate. But it is always best to avoid drugs.
My doctor added that I should avoid street food because we’ll never know what diseases these may bring. She also said to look out for stray cats and not let them inside the house because they bring germs and bacteria too.
